Santa Claus and Popcorn

Jingle bells and reindeer horns, Christmas trees and mistletoe, Jesus loves me this I know! Some of the lyrics to the Merle Haggard recording Santa Claus and Popcorn which my kids sang as children while preparing for Christmas to come. Perfect name of this layout I did of the grands! If you would like to hear the entire song here's a link. TFL

Nobody Cares About Me

is the title of the song Maggie sang her first solo to at the schools holiday concert. We were surprised to hear she was doing one, but she did a fabulous job with it. Amazing that one little girl seven years old could get up in front of a room full of strangers and do that! She received high praise from the teachers in her school also. We are so proud of her! She never let us hear the song until the night of the concert-"It's a surprise" she said!

Thanks so much for looking!

100 Lines

Bobby read 100 lines before Thanksgiving-great job for a kindergardner!  A line is a book that would normally equal 15 minutes of reading for a student his age.  We are so proud of him! He doing so well in school! Thanks for looking!

Canvas Mini Album

I have been taking a Mixed Media Class at the My Creative Classroom since the end of October.  Our instructor is Bethany Kartchner.  Our most recent project has been to make a canvas mini album. We actully bought canvas in bulk, cut it and painted, misted etc the backgrounds, added our photos and embellished. Here is mine. I think the photos do not do it justice as it looks much better in person. These are photos of the Victorian homes in Cape May, NJ. I loved the colors, and architecture of all of them. The photos are taken from a tour bus, and I do not have a lot of information but thought they were so pretty.

Shimmering Memory Board

This is the newest class I am taking over at My Creative Classroom. This week we did a mixed media board where we actually scrapped our layout on a piece of wood. We then created dimension and texture with gesso, then painted and shimmered our backgrounds!  Yes that is real sand and sea shells on the page! These are photos from my trip with friends to the Jersey shore.

A New Page for the BOM

I scrapped another page for my Book of Me, and conquered the Journaling challenge at Scrapping the Moments at the same time! You can't read it very well so if you are interested here is the journaling.
I always wanted to be one, but could not get there right out of high school. I even participated in a vocational program my senior year of high school. I worked as a nursing assistant at the local hospital in the mornings and went to school in the afternoons. I was the oldest of five children and my dad worked in heavy construction so no work in the winter, so they could not afford to send me to nursing school, besides I did not have a car so no transportation besides the bus. I would have been willing to ride the bus back and forth but no money for tuition. So I worked as a nursing assistant for several years. I would have joined the Waves also to have them pay for my education but my dad was dead set against that.
So life went on, I married, had a daughter, Kellie. I then divorced and then met and married Bob. I was a stay at home mom for many years-until Kellie decided she did not want to go to college and Becky was still in high school. I finally got my chance. It was May 1988 when I scheduled to take the entry exam into nursing school! Then we got the news that my Mom had throat cancer. I knew she was going to need support. I took the entry exam anyway. I was told I would hear from them in a couple of weeks about my results. Lo and behold they called me the next day and asked me to come in for my interview. I had tested so well they were offering to let me start in September. My Mom’s treatment would be over by then, so I was accepted into the W. Howard Nichol School of Practical Nursing. It was 1988-I was forty years old! Was I crazy? Had I lost my mind?
I went anyway!
I worked very hard studying every night but Friday and Saturday the first half of the year. Then we made it to Capping-yes they were still wearing caps then! After that things got harder! Learning the normal body the first half, then the abnormal the second half of the year. So I only took Friday nights off from studying then. I loved every moment of my schooling. The human body is such a miracle.
I graduated second in my class of thirty students. I was proud I worked so hard! I was finally a Licensed Practical Nurse-In my life that was and to this day is

AWESOME!!!!!!

Here are a few I have done in the past couple of days-

This first one was for the Heritage Challenge and the Journaling reads:My step-father was the king of Spoonerisms!
He did it so much that we would start doing it.
In case you don’t know what a spoonerism is
it is when you mispronounce a word and
mix it with another one like Sleeping Beauty
is beeping sleuty! Even after he passed away
ten years ago we would catch ourselves
doing it and say “Ah Grampa Jim is around”

This was for the Recipe Challenge
And this was Maggie at age 4 at her first ballet class.

The Bus Stops Here!

This is a true story-none of the names have been changed to protect the innocent or guilty! the journaling reads:  This year both of you had to ride the bus to school, which neither of you have done before. You had to wear wrist bands with your name and bus number on them and were instructed to make sure to check the number of your bus so that you got on the correct bus. We are 2 weeks into the school year and your Mom walked you to the bus stop at the corner of your street. Maggie went to climb aboard and you Bobby grabbed her and said “this is not our bus!” Your mom looked puzzled as she did not realize the bus had a number. You were right! This was not bus number 433, it was 277. The bus driver then explained that your bus was being repaired so it was okay to board! You were 5 years old Bobby and the only person that morning who noticed the difference! You are so observant! I am very proud of you for protecting your sister, and that you were doing the right thing by checking before you got on!
High Five for you!

Another Vacation Photo

This is a photo of the four of us who met in Cape May N.J. This was taken on the beach at Cape May. The water was so beautiful and relaxing! It was a calming peaceful place to be-I know why Pat loves it there. When we were out on the boat for the whale & dolphin watch I could have stayed there forever! The water was calm, peaceful, and you could be alone with yourself and God.

Journaling Challenge

this month is to face your demons so I did!  The journaling reads:
My biggest demon I believe is ANXIETY!

Anxiety is that sick feeling of fear you get in your stomach and your chest
You feel like you can’t breathe. It is paralyzing.
I remember having anxiety even as a small child. I have it still in my adult life,
but in the past ten years or so it seems to be under control and hiding in
there waiting for a chance to show it’s colors.
My father was an abusive person-to women and kids.
That was the source of my anxiety. It continues to this day but not as often as it
used to. I have learned over the years to deal with it better then I did
as a child and even as an adult. I guess it was a normal reaction to the
environment I lived in as a child, but not in my adult life so much as the
environment is different. But it still creeps in whenever I make a mistake.
I spent a lot of years trying to be perfect but have come to the realization that
I will never be perfect. So I don’t try to be that anymore-Just me!

Scraplift Challenge

For this month's scraplift challenge at Scrapping the Moments we were to use circular photos and ink or paint on our layouts. I cut a photo corner and border masks and painted them to go with photos of Maggie & Bobby riding their bikes at the park the day before they went back to school.
